Bolton Wanderers receive injury boost as they hunt down Derby County

Bolton Wanderers striker Dion Charles has ‘stepped up’ his recovery from his knee injury, as per a report by The Bolton News.

Bolton Wanderers’ attacker has been away on international duty with Northern Ireland over the past couple of weeks and although he didn’t feature for Michael O’Neill’s side against Romania or Scotland, he has used his time with them to help boost his fitness.

Charles, 28, has been out of action recently and his absence has been felt by the Trotters.

The Bolton News report defender George Johnston has re-joined training as well as Ian Evatt’s side prepare for their upcoming Easter clashes against Stevenage away and Reading away.

Getting Charles back for the remainder of the campaign would be a huge boost for Bolton as they eye promotion from League One.

The forward has scored 17 goals in all competitions this term, 13 of which have come in the league.

He is a proven goal scorer at third tier level and has fired 46 goals in 113 matches for the Trotters since joining them back in January 2022.

Prior to his switch to the Toughsheet Community Stadium, he had spells at Blackpool, AFC Fylde, Fleetwood Town, Southport and Accrington Stanley.

Charles has never played outside the North West but was linked with Championship pair Hull City and Swansea City in the January transfer window, as per The Belfast Telegraph. However, nothing materialised.

He is under contract at Bolton until 2026 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon.

Promotion this year would significantly help their chances of keeping hold of him though.

Evatt’s men are 3rd in the table and are four points behind 2nd place Derby County with a game in-hand on the Rams.
