Birmingham City midfielder heads out on loan, contract up this summer

Birmingham City’s Finley Thorndike has joined Alvechurch on loan, as announced by their official club website.

Birmingham City have let the midfielder head out the exit door on a temporary basis again.

Thorndike, 22, has made the switch to the Southern League Premier Division Central to get some game time.

The Blues have confirmed he will spend the rest of the season at Lye Meadow.

Thorndike’s contract at Birmingham expires at the end of the campaign but the Championship outfit hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months so will have a decision to make when he returns.

He was on the books at Midlands rivals West Brom and Aston Villa before linking up with the Blues back in 2022.

Boston United came calling for him last term and he was allowed to join the National League North club to get some experience under his belt.

He played eight matches for the Pilgrims during his first spell and chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Thorndike returned to the Boston Community Stadium for a second stint last summer and featured for them on eight occasions during the first-half of this season before heading back to St Andrew’s in January.

Birmingham have now given him the green light to move to Alvechurch with his long-term future up in the air.

The Blues have brought back Gary Rowett as they look to avoid relegation to League One. They have a huge game coming up on Friday away at QPR before locking horns with Preston North End at home on Monday.
