‘Fingers crossed’ – Key Stockport County man could return against Forest Green Rovers on Friday

Stockport County boss Dave Challinor has said Antoni Sarcevic could return this week.

Stockport County are back in League Two action on Friday with an away trip to Forest Green Rovers

Sarcevic, 32, sat out of their 5-0 home win over MK Dons last time out with a hamstring issue.

Asked whether he will be back for Good Friday, Challinor said, as per an interview on the official YouTube channel: “Yeah, fingers crossed. His outcome in the games since he’s come back has been really high. He’s a big loss for us but it was comforted by the fact Powelly (Nick Powell) was able to play 60 minutes.”

Getting Sarcevic back for Forest Green will be a boost for Stockport as they look to build on their victory over MK Dons

The Mancunian provides more competition and depth to their midfield department and injects experience into their ranks.

He has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, 25 of which have come in the league, and has chipped in with six goals and four assists.

The former England C international knows what it takes to get promoted out of the fourth tier having done it four times in the past.

Sarcevic, who has played for the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town, Plymouth Argyle and Bolton Wanderers, moved to Edgeley Park back in 2021.

He dropped down two divisions to join the Hatters in the National League and helped them gain promotion to the Football League in his first campaign.

His contract at Stockport expires this summer and he is due to become a free agent in June as things stand. The club have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future.

The Hatters are two points behind table toppers Mansfield Town and four inside the top three with eight fixtures left.
