3 players who could exit if Colchester United are relegated to the National League

Colchester United are fighting for their Football League status and are currently sat in 22nd place in the table.

Colchester United are only a point above the drop zone in League Two.

The Essex club have three games in hand on Sutton United and two on Forest Green Rovers below them.

Here is a look at three players who could leave them if they go down…

Samson Tovide

The 20-year-old has a bright future in the game and although he is under contract at Colchester until the summer of 2026, he would be unlikely to stay in non-league. He played for Leyton Orient before switching to his current club as a youngster.

Tovide has made 64 first-team appearances in all competitions to date and has chipped in with seven goals and six assists. The attacker’s pace and power can cause problems to opposition defences and he has a lot of potential.

Who is this?

Bradley Ihionvien

He has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the U’s this term after rising up through their academy ranks. The 20-year-old has played 30 matches and has found the net on five occasions.

His deal with Danny Cowley’s side expires in 2025 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him in the next transfer window. However, like Tovide, he is a very promising talent and it wouldn’t be a surprise if clubs higher up the pyramid are taking a look at him.

Cameron McGeehan

The midfielder has scored eight goals from midfield since arriving at Colchester last year. McGeehan, who is 28-years-old, is out of contract this June after only penning a one-year deal and is future is up in the air.

He has played for the likes of Norwich City, Luton Town and Barnsley in the past. The once-capped Northern Ireland international then had a three-year stint in Belgium at KV Oostende before heading back to England.
