Opinion: Norwich City need to keep hold of 26-year-old this summer, useful player to have in squad

Norwich City risk losing Jacob Sorensen on a free transfer to another club this summer.

Norwich City have a big decision to make regarding the long-term future of the former Denmark youth international.

Sorensen, who is 26-years-old, made the move to Carrow Road in 2020.

His contract with the Canaries expires at the end of June and he is poised to cut ties with the Championship promotion hopefuls as things stand.

Norwich should keep hold of Sorensen for another season as he is a useful player to have in their squad.

He is versatile and can play in either defence or midfield which is a good asset to have in a campaign where you play over 46 matches in all competitions.

Sorensen rocked up in East Anglia whilst the Canaries were still in the Premier League and he has since made 57 appearances in all competitions for them, 12 of which have come this term.

He has had injury problems in more recent times but is now back fit and looking to help David Wagner’s side cement their place in the play-offs. They are currently sat in 6th place and are three points above Hull City and Coventry City.

Prior to his move to England, the Esbjerg-born man started his career at his local team Esbjerg fB. He rose up through their academy ranks before going on to play 117 games, chipping in with eight goals.

It would be a shame to lose Sorensen for nothing and he would have to decide whether to stay in the Football League or head abroad if he became a free agent in a few months’ time.

Norwich’s focus is understandably on going up right now but players will have their contract situations playing on their minds regardless.
