‘Monitoring him closely’ – Fabrizio Romano on Sunderland star interest amid top-flight links

Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham is being monitored closely by scouts elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has said amid rumoured interest from top clubs.

Sunderland are no strangers to interest in their star men and ahead of the summer, they’ll be expecting more clubs to come in for their standout players. Among them is 18-year-old Jobe Bellingham, who has already garnered attention in his short time at the club.

The Black Cats only signed the attacking midfielder from Championship rivals Birmingham City last summer. His return of six goals and an assist in 39 games has helped him catch the eye though.

In December, TEAMtalk reported that Real Madrid and Chelsea were keeping tabs alongside other top clubs.

Now, with the summer transfer window a few months away, transfer guru Romano has spoken on the Sunderland starlet. As per Caught Offside, Romano spoke highly of Bellingham and confirmed scouts are ‘monitoring him closely’, though suggested no interest is serious at this stage.

He said:

“I really like him. I personally view him as an excellent talent – he’s a serious guy and a hard worker as well. I’m sure his future will be bright.

“For him to be similar to Jude is going to be difficult, as it would be for everyone as he’s a generational player, but Jobe is really talented and good. We will see what happens in the summer, it’s quiet so far but scouts are obviously monitoring him closely.”

Who is this?

One to watch?

It seems inevitable that a player of Bellingham’s talent draws high profile interest this summer. Top clubs would be foolish not to be intrigued by an 18-year-old playing regularly in the second-tier of English football.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean a move will transpire. And, he certainly has more developing to do before he can play at the top of the game. For that reason, a switch to one of Europe’s elite this summer may be a little soon.

As Romano says though, clubs will be sure to monitor the Sunderland ace’s performances. The admirers may well keep a close eye on his development before a future move, but time will tell if the Black Cats have to fend off bids over the transfer window.

In the meantime, Bellingham will be determined to add to his tally of six goals over the latter stages of the campaign.
