Birmingham City facing new Jordan James interest amid recent Leicester City link

Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James is now on the radar of Bologna as they eye potential Lewis Ferguson replacements, according to Il Resto del Carlino.

Birmingham City starlet James has been the subject of continued interest for a while now. Atalanta tried to prize him away from St. Andrew’s in the winter but ultimately failed in their pursuit.

Since then, Leicester City have been linked while Crystal Palace maintain their interest. Reports from Italy have said Atalanta’s interest in the Welshman has cooled though, despite strong admiration from scouts.

Now though, a new Serie A side have been linked with James.

According to long-standing Bologna-based newspaper Il Resto del Carlino (via Tutto Mercato Web), top-flight Italian outfit Bologna are also keen on the Birmingham City star. They view the midfielder as a potential replacement for Scottish star Lewis Ferguson, who has been linked with Juventus and Napoli.

Sought-after Blues ace James has eight goals in 36 Championship appearances this season. He’s played 99 times for Birmingham City overall and has nine Wales caps to his name too.

Who is this?

Another fight to keep James

Birmingham City were able to hold onto their 19-year-old star in the winter but when the summer comes around, it could be tough. Those keen will have more time to work on a deal and to avoid missing out should his stock continue to rise, there should be a desire to get him through the door.

The Blues are a club with their own ambitions and keeping key assets like James will be key to that. However, raising funds for other signings will be too, and a sale of the midfielder would definitely help.

It looks as though he won’t be short of options either. He may well have his pick from domestic clubs and attractive overseas options, so time will tell just how his situation pans out.

Until then, he’ll be fully focused on helping Birmingham City in their survival fight. They sit 21st in the Championship table and only out of the bottom three on goal difference with eight games left.
