Watford hoping pair are fit for Leeds United clash after recent injury woes

Watford interim boss Tom Cleverley has said they are ‘hopeful’ that Ryan Andrews and Jamal Lewis will be available for their next game against Leeds United.

Watford face the Whites in their next Championship fixture at Vicarage Road.

Both Andrews and Lewis have had to pull out of their international squads with England Under-20’s and Northern Ireland respectively due to injuries.

Cleverley has provided this update on the pair, as per the official club website: “From our point of view, we’re hopeful they’ll both be able to play a part against Leeds, so let’s see how they come through next week.”

Andrews picked up a dead leg in training for Watford. The 19-year-old is a product of the Hornets’ academy and broke into their first-team at the back end of last season under former boss Chris Wilder.

The teenager has since made 43 appearances for the Hertfordshire outfit in all competitions to date, chipping in with two goals.

He has a bright future ahead of him at Vicarage Road and is under contract until the summer of 2028.

As for Lewis, the left-back has sustained a foot injury. He is on loan with Watford from Newcastle United in the Premier League.

He was given the green light to link up with them last summer after falling out of favour with his parent club and has since played 31 matches this term.

Lewis joined the Toon Army from Norwich City in 2020 but has struggled to break into the starting XI at St James’ Park.

He is due to return to the North East later this year but his future is up in the air.

Watford won 1-0 away at Birmingham City last time out in Tom Cleverley’s first match at the helm. Emmanuel Dennis scored the winner for them in the Midlands.

They will be in confident mood now as they prepare to face Daniel Farke’s in-form Leeds outfit. The Whites are top of the table above Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
