Birmingham City recall youngster from non-league loan

Birmingham City have recalled striker Ben Beresford from his fruitful loan spell at Gloucester City, the non-league side have confirmed via their official X page.

Birmingham City are in a relegation battle and are only outside of the bottom three on goal difference as things stand. Sitting 21st in the table with eight games to go means it promises to be a nervy end to the season for the Blues.

Although their hopes won’t be pinned on a teenager with no Championship experience, there has been a transfer development which could suggest they could somewhat feel he could be a factor in the season’s run-in.

Striker Beresford netted 13 goals in all competitions for non-league side Gloucester City, but has now been recalled by Birmingham City. He is eligible to come straight into the first-team fold should they see fit according to Birmingham Live.

With the relegation-threatened side taking a punt on Gary Rowett as interim boss whilst Tony Mowbray is on medical leave following surgery, they could also take a punt on Beresford over the next handful of games.

Should Birmingham City take the gamble?

It is hard to say whether Birmingham City should or shouldn’t take the gamble on putting Beresford in the first-team fold over the next few weeks in the hopes of him making an impact, but their time is running out.

The forwards they have selected to lead the line over the course of the season haven’t particularly impressed and with a new man in the dugout there are likely to be changes on the pitch too.

It is expected that Rowett would stick to tried and tested players, proven players with experience and knowledge of the division. But a mixture of youth and experience can take clubs in the right direction and integrating Beresford, a player who knows where the net is, could be a masterstroke if it keeps them in the division.
