Hull City’s ‘style of play’ hailed by 23-year-old as the Tigers chase down the play-offs

Hull City defender Jacob Greaves has said he has ‘enjoyed’ the style of football under Liam Rosenior the most so far in his career.

Hull City are currently aiming to get into the Championship play-offs and are currently sat in 7th position, three points off 6th.

Greaves, 23, has been a key player for his hometown club over recent times and has flourished this season.

He has hailed his boss Rosenior and has said, as per an interview with The Athletic: “I was buzzing that he got the job because he was an ex-Hull City player that I used to watch and he coached me. I’ve got a photo from when I was 13 or 14 and he must have been doing his coaching badges.

“You could see how passionate he was then, so to take the job when he did (in November 2022), we were struggling and just above the bottom three, it shows the type of manager he is. He’s not shy about taking risks.

“When he came in, it was about keeping us resolute, getting the basics drilled in, and it helped in getting us into a comfortable position. This season, he’s had a full pre-season and has been able to implement his brand of football. It’s probably the style of play I’ve enjoyed most in my career.

“This type of football is something that you want to be a part of — keeping the ball on the floor, taking the ball in the six-yard box to get the team going.”

Rosenior has done a great job at Hull since he was picked as Shota Arveladze’s replacement in November 2022.

He managed to keep them up last term and has his side now challenging for promotion back to the Premier League.

Greaves has risen up through the academy ranks of the Tigers and was a regular for them at various youth levels.

He was loaned out to Cheltenham Town in League Two as a youngster to get some experience under his belt before breaking into the first-team at the MKM Stadium in 2021 under former boss Grant McCann.

The Cottingham-born man helped the East Yorkshire outfit win the League One title in his breakout campaign and he has since adapted with ease to the step up to the second tier.

The Athletic‘s report has mentioned the fact that top flight pair Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are keeping tabs on his progress.

Hull may face a battle to keep hold of him this summer, especially if they don’t go up.

Greaves is under contract until June 2026 so his current club are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon unless the right offer comes in for his services.

The Tigers are currently away on a training camp in Turkey. They are back in league action next Friday at home to Stoke City as they look to return to winning ways.

Rosenior’s men drew 2-2 at home to Leicester City last time out.
