Everton, Bayer Leverkusen among clubs eyeing Huddersfield Town loan ace, report claims

Huddersfield Town loan ace Alex Matos has interest from Everton, Fulham, Bayer Leverkusen and more, a report from Football League World has claimed.

Huddersfield Town signed midfielder Matos on loan from Chelsea in January. The move opened the door for the 19-year-old to gain some valuable first-team experience in the Championship having thrived in youth football.

Since then, former Norwich City starlet Matos has played 12 times for the Terriers. He netted his first senior goal in the 5-3 defeat to Southampton and has played in a range of midfield roles.

Now, it is claimed that the Chelsea loanee is drawing admiring glances from elsewhere.

Football League World claims that Premier League pair Everton and Fulham are among those keen on Matos. The Huddersfield Town loan man has admirers in Europe too though, with Bayer Leverkusen, Lille and PSV Eindhoven also said to be keeping tabs on his situation.

Matos only joined Chelsea last summer and is under contract until 2026.

Who is this?

A valuable stint for Matos

Bedford-born Matos was deemed as a top talent while at Norwich City. He never made a senior appearance there but his strong displays at youth level had him tipped for a bright future, hence why Chelsea swooped in when his deal ended.

After time in and around the first-team at Stamford Bridge, the youngster has gained valuable exposure to senior football at Huddersfield Town. It should aid his development and stand him in good stead for the rest of his career.

And, despite losing his place in the starting XI under Andre Breitenreiter, it seems his performances have already caught the eye elsewhere.

Given the fact he’s not long joined Chelsea, it might be a surprise to see them cash in this summer. The admirers of Matos’ talents could look to tempt them into a deal nonetheless, with the Huddersfield Town loan stint sure to have alerted many to his talents.

The Terriers sit 22nd in the Championship table as it stands, just inside the drop zone on goal difference. They have eight games to claw themselves out of the bottom three to avoid relegation to League One.
