Birmingham City bring in former Millwall pair to bolster backroom staff

Birmingham City’s interim boss Gary Rowett has brought in Paul Robinson and Dave Carolan to bolster his backroom staff, as announced by their official club website.

Birmingham City have acquired the pair until the end of the season as they look to secure their Championship status.

Both of them worked under Rowett at fellow second tier club Millwall.

The Blues have confirmed their arrivals on their website during this current international break.

Birmingham City additions

Robinson is a very familiar face to Birmingham fans following his spell as a player at St Andrew’s. He played for the Midlands club from 2012 to 2018.

He went on to play 175 games in all competitions and chipped in with four goals from the back. The ex-defender also had spells at Watford, West Brom, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.

The 45-year-old hung up his boots six years ago and worked with the Under-23’s with the Blues before following Rowett to Millwall.

As for Carolan, he has also worked for Birmingham in the past as a Sports Scientist back in 2015.

He has also had stints in the past at Norwich City, Aston Villa, Colchester United, Derby County and Stoke City.

The Irishman linked up with previous club Millwall in 2020 and held three different roles at The Den. Firstly, he was an Advisor before becoming a fitness coach and then a performance manager.

Rowett has a tough job on his hands as he looks to avoid relegation to League One.

The Blues are sat in 21st place and are only above the drop zone on goal difference. They have been in poor form recently and have eight fixtures left to save themselves.

Next up is an away trip to QPR on Good Friday before a home clash against Preston North End on Easter Monday.
