Portsmouth hoping attacker is available for Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County clashes

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has said Christian Saydee hopefully ‘won’t’ be out for more than two weeks.

Portsmouth had to take the attacker off in their last League One outing away at Peterborough United due to a hamstring injury. They went on to win 1-0 at London Road to boost their promotion push with Kusini Yengi scoring the winner.

Saydee, 21, now faces a race against time to be fit for their next games after the international break against Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County.

Mousinho has provided this update on his condition, as per a report by The News: “Christian felt his hamstring. It’s the same injury he had previously, when he came off against Cambridge away from home.

“It’s a neural injury, so it’s not a hamstring tear but feels like a tear. So hopefully it won’t keep him out for more than two weeks, but it’s obviously something he has to get on top of.”

The fact Saydee hasn’t torn his hamstring is a boost for Portsmouth so he won’t be unavailable for too long. However, they obviously won’t want to take any risks with him.

He made the switch to Fratton Park last summer and has since provided Mousinho with more competition and depth up front.

The Londoner, who is under contract with the third tier table toppers until June 2026, has made 35 appearances for them in all competitions, chipping in with three goals.

Saydee rose up through the academy ranks at Reading before linking up with AFC Bournemouth in 2018.

He then went on to play six games for the Cherries, as well as having loan spells away at Weymouth, Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town to get some experience under his belt before moving on to Pompey on a permanent basis.

It has been a dream campaign for Mousinho’s men as they close in on promotion to the Championship.

They have found an ability to grind out results and are five points clear of 2nd place Derby and nine ahead of Bolton Wanderers in 3rd with only seven matches left to play.
