Watford defender Charlie Stallard has joined Bedford Town on loan, as announced by their official club website.

Watford have let the youngster head out the exit door on a temporary basis for the second time this season.

Stallard, 20, spent time at Hayes and Yeading United earlier in this campaign.

The Hornets have confirmed he will now spend the rest of this term at The New Eyrie.

Stallard’s switch to Bedford is a chance for him to get some more experience under his belt.

He will benefit more from playing senior football as opposed to with the Hornets’ development side.

His new club play in the Southern League Premier Division One Central and are currently sat at the top of the table right now as they eye promotion.

Watford signed Stallard on a free transfer last summer and he penned an initial one-year deal with the Championship side, with the Hornets holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months on top of that.

The prospect, who can operate as either a centre-back or left-back, has previously played for Cambridge United and St Neots Town.

He is yet to make an appearance for his parent club but will be eager to get plenty of minutes for Bedford over the coming weeks.

Stallard temporarily leaves behind a Watford team who won 1-0 away at Birmingham City last time out.

They sacked Valerien Ismael recently after a poor run of form and have replaced him with Tom Cleverley in interim charge. The Hornets have a big decision to make on who to bring in as their next manager.
