‘No chance’ – Leyton Orient boss plays down late push for the play-offs

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has played down his side’s chances of making the play-offs.

Leyton Orient are sat in 10th place and are only five points off the top six in League One.

They won 1-0 away at Stevenage last time out after Max Sanders’ first-half goal.

However, Wellens believes play-offs are out of the question, as per a report by the Newham Recorder: “Five points is fine, but it is the seven games [which] is too little. We are chasing too many good teams and they won’t lose enough points. There is no chance.”

A lot can happen in seven games and Leyton Orient are still in with a shout if they can if they can pick up some more wins.

Wellens may be just taking some pressure off his players. They have had a great season and have nothing to lose heading into the final few games of the campaign.

The O’s have some tricky fixtures coming up after the international break. First up is an away trip to face in-form Lincoln City.

However, if they can beat the Imps, they would go level on points with them.

The London club then lock horns with 4th position Peterborough United at home which will be a good test.

They are certainly not out of it yet and Leyton Orient will be full of confidence after their win at Stevenage.

Wellens has done a solid job in charge at Brisbane Road and his side have adapted really well to the step up a division following their promotion from League Two last year.

They won the fourth tier title and came up with Northampton Town, Stevenage and Carlisle United. The latter have struggled and are bottom of the table.
