Middlesbrough in talks to tie down star duo to new contracts, report claims

Middlesbrough have had positive discussions with Isaiah Jones and Riley McGree in the hopes of tying down the duo to new contracts, according to Teesside Live.

Middlesbrough may be out of the race to reach the play-offs this season and so attentions may soon turn to the summer transfer window.

Not only will they be looking at potential incomings and outgoings, but this also presents them with an opportunity to look at those approaching the end of their current contracts.

Both Jonny Howson and Paddy McNair see their contracts expire in June and so will likely be a priority for the Teessiders. However, star duo Jones and McGree’s deals come to an end at the end of next season.

According to Teesside Live, the duo have already begun talks with the club over potentially extending their stay at the Riverside, with discussions having been positive.

The club are hoping to tie down both Jones and McGree to new contracts, and understandably so given their impact in the first-team fold over the past few seasons.

A huge boost for Middlesbrough

Both Jones and McGree have been standouts for Middlesbrough, not only this season but more or less since they broke into the team. There are likely to be admirers of the duo and so getting them to put pen to paper will be imperative.

Keeping the duo at the club long-term will certainly improve their chances of getting out of the Championship and back to the Premier League. They are both very impressive players capable of winning games with individual pieces of brilliance and so having them in the Boro squad is a huge boost.

There will also be decisions to be made on defensive trio Anfernee Dijskteel, Matt Clarke and Tommy Smith, whose contracts also expire in June 2025. Although, as we have already seen, Jones and McGree will be prioritised.
