Opinion: Ipswich Town is the perfect place for Chelsea ace next season – on one condition

Ipswich Town have seen loan winger Omari Hutchinson come on leaps and bounds this season, developing into a real star for Kieran McKenna.

Ipswich Town recruited Hutchinson from Chelsea last summer, bringing him in on a season-long deal. It marked his first foray into regular first-team football, and he’s thoroughly impressed.

The 20-year-old has necessarily always been the first name on the team sheet, with 24 of his 36 Championship appearances coming as a substitute. However, he’s started more of late and a return of five goals and three assists in the last nine league matches has fully justified his increased minutes.

Overall, the Chelsea loanee has eight goals and six assists to his name in 42 games. In the process, he’s proven himself in the senior game after thriving in youth football and after impressing with a side battling at the top of the Championship table, the only way is up for Hutchinson.

You have to think he’ll be playing top-flight football next season. And, if Ipswich Town are to win promotion, they could be the perfect club for him to make that step with.

Who is this?

A key condition

You have to feel promotion will be important in any bid to keep Hutchinson.

He’s a top talent and Chelsea – assuming they plan on retaining his services – should be looking to test him in top-flight football. Perhaps a move to another Premier League club or a European side would be a good one, but if Ipswich Town win promotion, a summer loan return could be ideal.

Hutchinson is already settled at Portman Road. He knows the squad and demands of manager Kieran McKenna, so he would be able to slot right back into life with the Tractor Boys, rather than having to endure a period of settling at a new club and proving his abilities to a new manager.

As highlighted, this could ride heavily on Ipswich Town winning promotion. They’re 3rd as it stands two points off new leaders Leeds United and one off Leicester City, who hold a game in hand after their FA Cup involvement at the weekend.

Hutchinson himself has refused to be drawn on what the summer has in store for him.

But, if Ipswich Town are to go up, they could be the perfect place for Hutchinson to continue his development.
