‘He’s very important’ – QPR man hailed by Marti Cifuentes after Sunderland draw

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has said Sinclair Armstrong is a ‘very important’ player as they look to stay up this season.

QPR drew 0-0 away at Sunderland in their latest Championship outing.

Armstrong, 20, came off the bench in the second-half at the Stadium of Light.

Cifuentes said afterwards, as per a report by West London Sport: “Sometimes when he starts he can get tired, but when he comes on as a sub he has a great impact, especially against defensive lines that try to play higher up the pitch.

“I think he did a great job and has made a great impact during games. He’s very important and he has that pace and the capacity to attack.”

QPR man hailed

Armstrong is an effective substitute to bring on and gives QPR something different in attack.

His pace and power causes problems to opposition defenders and he is a good weapon to have for the Hoops.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has one cap under his belt so far, has made 32 appearances in all competitions so far this season for the London club and has scored four goals.

Armstrong’s contract with the R’s is up at the end of this campaign but they hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. His chances of staying put are likely to depend on what league the club are in next term.

He joined QPR back in 2020 having previously been on the books at Cherry Orchard and Shamrock Rovers.

The forward had early loan spells away at Torquay United and Aldershot Town in non-league to get some experience under his belt before breaking into the first-team picture in 2022.

As Cifuentes has alluded to, Armstrong is a great option to have in the squad and he will be crucial ahead of their upcoming games.

The Hoops sit in 20th place in the table and are a point above the drop zone with eight fixtures left to play.

They are back in action after the international break with a crucial match-up against 21st position Birmingham City at home.
