Birmingham City to make checks on attacker following Watford injury blow

Birmingham City will assess Lucas Jutkiewicz’s knee injury ‘imminently’ after his weekend blow, as detailed in a report by BirminghamLive.

Birmingham City were beaten 1-0 at home by Watford in their last Championship outing.

Jutkiewicz, 34, went off in the latter stages of the clash against the Hornets.

BirminghamLive report that the Blues will now make checks on his condition. The international break also gives the Midlands outfit the chance to help Marc Roberts, Krysian Bielik, Alex Pritchard, Keshi Anderson and Siriki Dembele step up their recoveries.

Birmingham will be hoping that Jutkiewicz is fine and that he can play in their upcoming fixtures.

The attacker injects useful experience into their ranks and gives them another option to pick from up top.

He has been on the books at St Andrews since 2016 and has since made 329 appearances for them in all competitions to date, chipping in with 67 goals, four of which have come this season.

His contract expires at the end of this term and his long-term future is up in the air. He is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.

Jutkiewicz has been a great servant to the Blues over recent years. Prior to his move to his current club, he had spells at Swindon Town, Everton, Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Burnley.

Birmingham are embroiled in a relegation battle and their loss to Watford was another damaging result.

They are now sat in 21st place in the table and are only above the drop zone on goal difference. They have eight matches left to play.

Jutkiewicz could be forced to sit out for a spell though which would be a blow and the Blues will find out the extent of his injury over the coming days.

Their next fixture is against QPR away on Good Friday and they head into that one positioned a point behind the Hoops in the table. They then face Preston North End at home on Easter Monday.
