Premier League interest grows as Fulham join chase for Blackburn Rovers star

Blackburn Rovers have seen Szmodics emerge as their leading talisman this season. He’s not just their leading man though, with the 28-year-old atop the Championship goalscoring standings with 21 goals in the league.

Across all competitions, Szmodics has 27 goals and three assists in 40 games for a struggling Rovers side. His form has seen interest from elsewhere emerge with Brentford and Luton Town linked last weekend.

Now, The Sun reports that a third Premier League side has joined the chase. Fulham sent scout Brian Talbot to watch Szmodics in action as he netted against Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

It is said that Blackburn Rovers hope to land a big fee if clubs do come in. However, relegation to League One would likely change the picture.

John Eustace’s side are 17th in the Championship table as it stands, three points clear of the drop.

Who is this?

A tempting chance to move up?

Szmodics is under contract with Rovers until the summer of 2026 after penning an extension earlier this year. There’s a 12-month option in that deal too, potentially keeping him on board until 2027.

He’ll surely be enjoying his football at Ewood Park too. While Blackburn Rovers aren’t as far up the league as they’ve like, the Irishman is in the form of his life and has found a role that has helped him reach another level this season.

However, if a Premier League club was to come calling, the chance to make the move up could prove tempting. Szmodics hasn’t played in the top-flight before and having worked his way up the EFL since starting with Colchester United, completing the rise up the top-four tiers would be a fantastic reward for his progression over the years.

Blackburn Rovers could find the chance to cash in on the 28-year-old too tempting, though time will tell if the interest from Fulham, Brentford and Luton Town firms up.
