Swansea City vs Cardiff City: 5 players who could dictate the derby clash

Swansea City take on Cardiff City in the South Wales derby this weekend.

Swansea City head into the match on the back of their 1-0 loss away at Bristol City last time out in the Championship and will be keen to bounce back with a win. Luke Williams’ side are only five points above the drop zone.

Cardiff City, on the other hand, have been in fine form recently and have won their last four games on the spin to boost their play-off hopes. They beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in dramatic fashion last weekend.

Now, ahead of the clash, we look at five players who could dictate who could dictate it…

Matt Grimes

He is a big player for Swansea in the middle of the park and will be eager to control things against Cardiff. The 28-year-old has been ever-present for them this term and has made 41 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with three goals and six assists.

Liam Cullen

The Wales international, who has one cap under his belt, will be looking to cause problems for Erol Bulut’s men. He has found the net five times this term and although he hasn’t been prolific, his pace up front will be something that his side will want to utilise in this upcoming fixture.

Swansea signed the 22-year-old in January and he has since scored two goals. The Brazilian rocked up in Wales from Gremio and is an exciting talent who could have a big future ahead of him at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Josh Bowler

There is no doubting his threat from wide areas and he is player to watch as Cardiff look to keep their recent winning streak going in their quest for the top six. The winger is currently on loan with the Bluebirds from Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

David Turnbull

Bulut’s side landed him from Celtic earlier this winter to bolster their midfield department. The 24-year-old has injected more energy into their starting XI and has a lot of quality on his right foot.
