‘Pressure is on’ – Plymouth Argyle vs Preston North End prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Plymouth Argyle vs Preston North End prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday.

Plymouth Argyle head into their upcoming Championship match on the back of their 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers last time out. Morgan Whittaker scored their goal at Ewood Park.

The Pilgrims are currently sat in 17th place in the table. They are three points above the relegation zone with nine fixtures left to play.

As for Preston North End, they remain in the mix for the play-offs. The Lilywhites are 10th and are five points off the top six with a game in-hand on the teams above them.

Ryan Lowe’s men were beaten 2-1 at home by Stoke City last weekend though. They hadn’t lost in seven heading into that one.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Plymouth Argyle need to start picking up more wins to avoid an immediate relegation back down to League One.

The pressure is on Ian Foster to start getting some more points and they are winless in their last three. He was appointed following Steven Schumacher’s exit to fellow Championship club Stoke City.

“As for Preston North End, they are in a strong position but will be disappointed with their home loss to Stoke City last time out. That was a pretty damaging result for Ryan Lowe’s men.

“I can see this one being a draw at Home Park this Saturday. I don’t think there will be too much between the sides at all.”

Who is this?

James Ray

“The home form that was carrying Plymouth Argyle has dropped off and an instant return to League One is a real possibility. It would be a great shame too, as they’ve had some fantastic moments this season but are falling away at the wrong time.

“It’s another challenging game for Preston and another where Ryan Lowe revisits an old link. He should be hopeful of getting a result against his former club though having claimed back-to-back away wins in the league.

“Plymouth need to find form and there is definitely a route to victory here. However, I fear for them and think they’ll suffer another loss.”
