Peterborough United vs Portsmouth: 5 players who dictate huge League One promotion clash

Peterborough United vs Portsmouth sees two League One promotion hopefuls meet at London Road with both determined to claim all three points.

Peterborough United come into the clash with Portsmouth on a run of five straight League One wins. They extended the streak with a 3-1 victory over Stevenage on Wednesday night, leaving them 4th and four points off the top two with a game in hand.

Pompey meanwhile remain top of the League One table, where they have sat for much of this season. They’re 11 without defeat in the third-tier following a 2-1 win over Burton Albion last time out, with Kusini Yengi netting both.

Now, ahead of this weekend’s game, we pick out five players who could dictate Peterborough United vs Portsmouth

Colby Bishop

After a rest in the week, expect Colby Bishop to return to the starting XI this weekend. The powerful striker has 16 league goals to his name and will be a real handful for impressive Posh centre-back duo Ronnie Edwards and Josh Knight.

Kwame Poku

Poku is one of a few talents who make up a seriously lively Peterborough United attack. He looks like a Championship-ready player but for now, he’s still causing headaches for third-tier defenders.

The 22-year-old has 12 goals and nine assists this season, netting his latest against Stevenage in the week.

Marlon Pack

Experienced midfielder Pack is one of Pompey’s most important players and given the midfield shortage, he will almost certainly start at the weekend.

His wide passing range and composure on the ball has helped him register eight assists in 31 League One games. Pack also has three goals to his name.

Who is this?

Mailk Mothersille

The battle for the starting spot up top will be between Ricky-Jade Jones and Malik Mothersille. The former got the nod in the week but it was the latter who came on and changed the game with two assists.

Former Chelsea talent Mothersille looks to be developing well at Peterborough United after taking time to settle in and the 20-year-old will be eager to net his first league goal after a prolific EFL Trophy campaign.

Abu Kamara

Last but not least is Norwich City loanee Abu Kamara. He’s taken to senior football brilliantly in his first campaign and at Portsmouth, he’s become a real favourite.

The winger is a tricky presence and against Posh’s forward-thinking full-backs, he could find joy in behind. If deployed in a similar wing-back role though, he could be tested defensively.
