Leeds United eyeing striker who has averaged a goal every 75 minutes this season

Leeds United are said to be eyeing up a summer move for Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi, according to Turkish news outlet Aksam.

Leeds United are looking to secure an immediate return to Premier League football. They sit 2nd in the Championship table as it stands and haven’t suffered a league defeat in 2024.

Of course, the fight for promotion is the main focus. However, those behind the scenes will have an eye on potential transfer targets for the summer transfer window, though the options will likely differ depending on what division they find themselves in.

Now, an intriguing link has emerged from Turkish outlet Aksam.

They claimed that Leeds United are ‘expected’ to knock on the door of Super Lig giants Fenerbahce for Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi. They state his contract is up at the end of the season, though there is a 12-month extension option there to trigger.

It comes after a fruitful campaign for Batshuayi. He’s managed 20 goals in 35 games across all competitions but as he’s behind Eden Dzeko in the pecking order, Batshuayi has played only 1,485 minutes.

His goal record across that time equates to a thoroughly impressive goal every 75 minutes, as per Transfermarkt.

Who is this?

A needed addition?

Batshuayi has maintained a good goal record in some strong leagues over his career and a goal every 75 minutes this season is thoroughly impressive.

However, a return of 15 goals in 77 Premier League games isn’t the most eye-catching. He’ll also cost a fee assuming that Fenerbahce trigger his contract extension.

Leeds United’s frontline has been fantastic in the Championship this season. The regular front four of Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter, Dan James and Crysencio Summerville along with the likes of Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford means they’re pretty well-stocked going forward.

All of those should be given chances to impress should the Whites win promotion. So, you have to wonder if a move for Batshuayi would be a necessary one.

Time will tell if anything comes of the link but after such a prolific season, Leeds United probably won’t be the only side linked with Batshuayi this summer.
