Sunderland man to miss out on loan move after latest development

Sunderland will have to hold off sending goalkeeper Adam Richardson due to him picking up an injury, as per a report by the Sunderland Echo.

Sunderland have been looking to send the stopper to another club on a temporary basis.

Richardson, 20, is under contract with the Championship side until the summer of 2026 after penning a new deal last year.

In this latest update regarding his situation by the Sunderland Echo, a loan switch away from the Stadium of Light is now in ‘serious doubt’ following a recent injury setback.

Richardson would benefit from playing regular first-team football at this stage of his career so the fact he won’t be able to go anywhere for the time being is a bit of a blow for both him and Sunderland.

His focus right now will be on getting back to full fitness and the Black Cats will have a decision to make on what to do with him this summer, whether that be to ship him off somewhere or keep hold of him for cover and depth.

The youngster’s chances of breaking into their starting XI are very slim with Anthony Patterson in his way.

He missed out on a move away in the last transfer window meaning he would have had to have gone to a non-league club if he was to leave Sunderland.

Richardson had a spell away from the North East last term in Yorkshire with Guiseley to boost his development.

He has been on the books of the Black Cats for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks.

The ‘keeper has been a regular at various youth levels over recent years but is yet to play for their senior team. The former England youth international has made eight appearances for their Under-21’s side to date.

Sunderland are back in action this weekend with a home clash against QPR as they look to return to winning ways under interim boss Mike Dodds.
