Opinion: Under-the-radar Hull City signing could be their smartest addition from January

Not many people knew much about Abdulkadir Omur when he rocked up at Hull City during the January transfer window.

Seven new faces came through the door at the MKM Stadium this winter, including Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho and Burnley’s Anass Zaroury.

Omur, 24, linked up with the Championship promotion hopefuls on a permanent deal from Trabzonspor.

His arrival largely went under-the-radar due to the other additions but the Turkey international has made a positive impression so far.

Omur making positive first impression at Hull City

It is safe to say some of Hull’s signings from the Turkish Super Lig haven’t worked out since Acun Ilicali’s takeover in January 2022. The likes of Dogukan Sinik, Benjamin Tetteh and Dimitrios Pelkas all struggled to make impacts.

However, Omur is different. Liam Rosenior has shown a lot of faith in the attacking midfielder over recent weeks and has even started him up front.

Prior to his switch to England a couple of months ago, he spent his whole career to date at Trabzonspor. He played 211 games for his previous club and scored 25 goals.

Omur helped them win the Turkish top flight for the first time in their history back in 2022, scoring seven goals that year.

He has adapted well to life in England and it was a smart move by Hull to sign him mid-season as he will be using this current spell to get used to a new country before he hopes to properly kicks on next term. He was linked with Manchester City and Liverpool in 2019, as per HullLive.

With Carvalho due to head back to Liverpool at the end of his loan deal, the Tigers have a ready-made replacement ready to step up.

Rosenior’s men have a break from the action for two weeks now before taking on Stoke City at home at the end of the month. They are 7th in the table and are outside the play-offs on goal difference after their 2-2 draw with Leicester City last time out.
