Leeds United man ‘all in’ at Middlesbrough as Carrick responds to permanent deal question

Middlesbrough won’t be making an early decisions over a permanent move for Luke Ayling but the Leeds United man is ‘all in’ with Boro, Michael Carrick says.

Middlesbrough signed experienced right-back Ayling on loan from Leeds United in January. He had lost his place in Daniel Farke’s starting XI but has quickly become an influential figure on Teesside.

Since joining in the winter, the 32-year-old has started all 11 Championship games for Boro. Ayling is enjoying some fantastic form too, providing an assist in each of the last three matches as Carrick’s side have won three consecutive ties.

His impressive run of performances has seen Middlesbrough fans call for him to be signed permanently in the summer. A move elsewhere is on the cards with his Elland Road deal up at the end of the season, but Carrick isn’t being drawn on the chances on a move just yet.

The Boro boss was asked if Ayling is playing for a long-term stay at the Riverside, but Carrick insisted the loan man’s full focus is on football matters. As quoted by Teesside Live, he said:

“You’re always playing for something and as it stands at the moment that’s obviously what’s next. Looking at him, that’s not at the forefront of his mind at all. He’s all in, he’s desperate to do well and win games for us.

“We’ll see. That will play out how it’s going to play out over the next few months.”

Who is this?

A long-term option?

Ayling is in fine form and his performances of late have proven he still has plenty in the locker. He’ll be 33 in August but his all-action displays on the right-hand side have shown he has no plans of slowing down.

He will be available for nothing in the summer and providing he is keen on a move, you have to think a deal is there to be done for Middlesbrough. Time will tell just what his stance on a stay is but for now, he’s ‘all in’ on Teesside.

After contributing with an assist in the three straight victories, Leeds United loanee Ayling will be looking to play a pivotal part in the home clash with relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Middlesbrough come into the game sat 9 in the Championship table with five points separating them and the play-offs. Nine games remain for them to cut that gap and sneak into the top six after a challenging campaign.
