‘Best in the league’ – Peterborough United vs Portsmouth prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Peterborough United vs Portsmouth prediction ahead of the League One clash on Saturday afternoon.

Peterborough United head into their clash with Portsmouth fresh off the back of a midweek win over fellow play-off hopefuls Stevenage. Darren Ferguson’s side were locked in a competitive game but took control in the second half and ultimately emerged 3-1 winners at London Road.

Posh have now won five League One games in a row. They’ve recovered brilliantly from four consecutive defeats and now sit 4th, four points off the top two with a game in hand on all the teams above them.

Portsmouth are one of the three teams above this weekend’s opponents. John Mousinho and co are still sitting pretty at the top of the League One table, five points clear of Bolton Wanderers in 2nd.

Pompey are 11 games without defeat in the third-tier after defeating Burton Albion on Tuesday night. A Kusini Yengi brace secured another three points against the Brewers.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is one of two huge games in League One this weekend. The outcome of this and the meeting between Derby County and Bolton Wanderers could have huge implications in the promotion fight.

Portsmouth have been absolutely fantastic all season and are good value for their place at the top of the pile. They’ll know they’re in for a real test this weekend though.

“The Peterborough United attack is arguably the best in the league and they can be absolutely rampant on their day. Pompey have to prevent the hosts from getting into their flow, else they could suffer a rare defeat.

“I think we’re in for a really competitive game here and on current form, I can’t split them. I’ll say this ends 2-2.”

Who is this?

Harry Mail

This is a significant game at the top end of the League One and both sides won’t want to lose it meaning it will be a nervy one.

Peterborough United are 4th and are still in with a shout of getting into the top two. They lost in the play-offs last year and will want to avoid a repeat of that.

Portsmouth are five points clear at the summit and will be eager to just get over the line now. John Mousinho has done a top job in charge there.

I’m struggling to separate these two this weekend though and I’m saying draw.”
