‘A huge blow’ – Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday afternoon.

Ipswich Town come into this weekend’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday looking to bounce back from a late defeat to Cardiff City last time out. The Tractor Boys were beaten by a last-gasp Callum O’Dowda goal.

Kieran McKenna’s side had won six straight Championship games prior. As a result of the loss they’re now behind Leeds United again, a point back in 3rd.

Sheffield Wednesday meanwhile lost to Leeds United last Friday. It halted a four-game winning run for Danny Rohl and co but they’re still in a good position to claw themselves out of the drop zone.

The Owls are 23rd in the Championship table, level on points with Huddersfield Town above them. Only five points separates them and Swansea City up in 15th.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Ipswich Town can’t let that late defeat to Cardiff City get to them. A dip in form now would be dreadful timing, especially with Leeds United maintaining such a pace in the promotion race.

“The hosts will know that Sheffield Wednesday won’t be a pushover as well. The Owls have absolutely everything to play for and will be determined to get back on track after their own winning run was halted.

“Whoever loses here will likely suffer a huge blow to their end of season goal, be it Ipswich and promotion or Wednesday and survival. While I feel the visitors are capable of getting something, I think it’ll be Town who get the vital three points in this one.”

Ipswich Town will be desperate to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Cardiff City last time out.

That seemed like a damaging loss for the Tractor Boys but I fancy them to respond with three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls have been brilliant since Danny Rohl took over but this will be a tricky test for them against a side eyeing automatic promotion. I still think the visitors have a strong chance of staying up this term, but I can’t see them getting anything at Portman Road this weekend.”

Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction: 2-0
