Rotherham United receive positive news on the injury front regarding stalwart

Rotherham United boss Leam Richardson has said Lee Peltier’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Rotherham United are expected to be without the defender for a matter of weeks, not months.

Peltier, 37, sustained a blow earlier this month in a Championship fixture against Sheffield Wednesday and has missed the Millers’ last two games against Coventry City and Norwich City.

Richardson has provided this update on his condition, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser: “It’s better than we thought. It’s ankle ligaments. Fingers crossed, it will be weeks and, knowing Lee, it will be quite quick in weeks.”

The fact Peltier won’t be out for too long is good news for Rotherham. They have leaked 10 goals in their last two outings without him in the team.

They need his experience and know-how in the starting XI and getting him back out on the pitch will be a boost as the Millers look to end the season on a high.

It has been a tricky campaign to say the least for the Yorkshire outfit and they need to start thinking about next term and the summer as they look to bounce back with promotion from League One, assuming they don’t miraculously survive.

Peltier’s contract at the New York Stadium expires at the end of June and the club will need to decide whether to hand him a new deal or let him leave for nothing.

He has made 20 appearances in all competitions for them this season and has found the net twice from the back.

Peltier has played for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough in the past and has been with his current club since 2022.

He helped them survive last year under former boss Matt Taylor but they are 20 points from safety this time around with only nine matches left to play.

Rotherham are back in action this weekend with a with a home clash against Huddersfield Town before the international break.
