Midfielder back: Barnsley team news and predicted XI to face Carlisle United

The latest Barnsley team news as Neill Collins’ side gear up to face Carlisle United in League One.

Barnsley head into their upcoming League One clash on the back of their 5-1 home loss to Lincoln City last time out.

The Tykes remain well in the race for automatic promotion to the Championship.

They lost in the play-off final last year and will be hoping to take that one step further this time around.

Barnsley team news

As per a report by The Yorkshire Post, Herbie Kane is suspended for the trip to Brunton Park. Fellow midfielder Josh Benson is back available, whilst there is no update on January signing Donovan Pines.

Middlesbrough loan man Liam Roberts will keep his place between the sticks for Barnsley.

The backline is also expected to stay the same with Maël de Gevigney, Jamie McCart and Josh Earl in the heart of the defence, with Jordan Williams and Nicky Cadden either side, despite the fact they leaked five goals against Lincoln.

In midfield, Kane’s absence means Jon Russell, who came off the bench last time out against the Imps, could be given the nod by Collins alongside Adam Phillips and Luca Connell. A start may come too soon for Benson and a place with the substitutes is more likely for the former Burnley man.

Up front, Luton Town loanee John McAtee has 10 goals to his name in this campaign, seven of which have come in the league.

Devante Cole has found the net on 17 occasions this term but his contract at Oakwell is up this summer and his long-term future is up in the air.
