‘Magnificent’ – Brighton loan man praised by EFL boss for ‘aggressive’ weekend performance

Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace has said he thought Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Yasin Ayari was ‘magnificent’ in their last outing.

Blackburn Rovers drew 1-1 at home to Plymouth Argyle last time out in the Championship.

Ayari, 20, played the full 90 minutes in the middle of the park for the hosts at Ewood Park.

He caught the eye of his new manager who said, as per a report by the Lancashire Telegraph: “I thought he was magnificent, he has come off the bench in the last couple of games without playing at all really. I thought he sat in there in midfield and broke the play up well. He was aggressive, very energetic and I was pleased for him.

“He tired during the second half and the first half and that is understandable because he hasn’t played many games. This is where we are at the moment.”

Blackburn will be hoping that Ayari can have a strong end to this campaign as they look to preserve their second tier status.

Rovers are currently sat in 18th place in the table and are three points above the drop zone with nine matches left to play.

They swooped to land Ayari on a temporary basis on a deal running until the summer to bolster their midfield ranks following Adam Wharton’s exit to Crystal Palace earlier this winter.

The Sweden international, who has two caps under his belt for his country to date, spent the first-half of this term with Coventry City and played 13 matches altogether for the Sky Blues, chipping in with a single goal.

Brighton signed him in January 2023 on a contract until June 2027 from AIK and he has since played four times for the Seagulls. He is due to return to the AMEX Stadium later this year and Roberto De Zerbi’s side will have a decision to make on what to do with him next.

For now, his focus will be on helping Blackburn stay up. They are back in action this weekend with an away trip to the Riverside Stadium to lock horns with Middlesbrough as they look to find some momentum.

Eustace, who took over from Jon Dahl Tomasson last month, hasn’t won in his first eight matches. However, he has drawn six of them.
