Ipswich Town in talks with 2021 signing over new contract, deal up this summer

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky has said there are ‘negotiations’ regarding a new contract going on behind the scenes.

Ipswich Town are holding talks with the stopper over potentially extending his stay at Portman Road.

Hladky, 33, sees his current deal expire at the end of this season and he is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.

He has provided this update on his situation, as per a report by the East Anglian Daily Times:“There is not much I can say. Obviously, there are negotiations but they can take some time and there is nothing done yet.

“I’m in my ‘tunnel’ and all I want to do is focus on the next game, which is natural for a player. The stuff around me, I have people to deal with.”

Ipswich signed Hladky back in 2021 and he had to be patient for game time during his first couple of years with the Suffolk outfit.

He has made the number one spot his own in this campaign in the Championship following their promotion from League One.

The former Czech Republic youth international has made 30 appearances in all competitions this term due to his ability to use his feet.

Keeping hold of Hladky would be a shrewd bit of business by the Tractor Boys and would ensure that they have a useful option between the sticks who can operate in the way that Kieran McKenna likes his team to play, even if in the long-term if he loses his position to a new signing.

He moved over to the United Kingdom back in 2019 when St Mirren snapped him up. Prior to his switch to Scotland, the 6ft 4inc man played for FC Zbrojovka Brno and Slovan Liberec.

Hladky played 59 matches for the Buddies altogether before Salford City lured him down the border. He then made 53 outings for the Ammies prior to his Ipswich switch.

McKenna’s men were beaten 2-1 away at Cardiff City last time out but remain well in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League along with Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton. Next up is a home clash against Sheffield Wednesday as they look to return to winning ways.
