3 left-backs Leeds United should target this summer as Junior Firpo stance emerges

Leeds United are set to be in the market for a new left-back this summer with offers for Junior Firpo likely to be welcomed.

Leeds United have seen Firpo become the starting left-back in recent weeks with Sam Byram on the sidelines.

He’s impressed too, but with his deal up at the end of next season and his struggles with form and injuries in mind, The Athletic says a contract extension is unlikely and as a result, bids will be ‘well received’.

It means the Whites will go into the market for another option at left-back. Here, we put forward three options Leeds United should have on the radar come the start of the summer transfer window.

Rhys Norrington-Davies – Sheffield United

Norrington-Davies has had an injury-hit campaign in the Premier League, which is a shame considering how strong he looked in the Championship. He’s reliable as both a full-back and left-sided centre-back and is approaching the end of his contract.

While perhaps not the most attractive addition, he could be a low-risk signing for Leeds United regardless of which league they’re in. He’d be able to settle in with the strong Welsh contingency too.

Greg Taylor – Celtic

Taylor has impressed in Scotland with Celtic and as his deal approaches the last 12 months, the chance to make a move to a higher level could arise for the 26-year-old Scotsman.

Celtic offer the draw of Champions League football but after a full career north of the border, a club like Leeds United could be a very tempting prospect. That would especially be the case if they rise to the Premier League.

Maxim De Cuyper – Club Brugge

With four goals and 12 assists to his name in 42 games this season, 23-year-old De Cuyper could be a left-back who earns a move to a major league this summer. He’s impressed in Belgium with Club Brugge and could be ready for a step up.

He could be a feasible addition for Leeds United regardless of their division too. Burnley were able to tempt Jupiler Pro League stars to the Championship last season and a club of the Whites’ stature could likely do so as well.
