The72’s writers offer their Peterborough United vs Stevenage prediction ahead of the League One clash on Wednesday evening.

Peterborough United head into this midweek encounter wiith Stevenage off the back of a 3-1 victory away from home over Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon, leaving it late to secure an important three points.

With the game goalless at half-time, Ricky-Jade Jones eventually put the Posh ahead in the 56th minute. The Brewers then levelled things through Ademola Ola-Adebomi 14 minutes later, but late strikes from Josh Knight and Jonson Clarke-Harris wrapped up the result for Darren Ferguson’s men. They jumped up to 4th in the League One table as a result, now just four points off the top two with a game in hand.

Stevenage meanwhile drew their last encounter 0-0 against a Fleetwood Town outfit that ended the match with 10 men.

The Boro dominated play against Charlie Adam’s side, but were unable to find a breakthrough despite Harrison Holgate’s sending off in the 68th minute. Steve Evans’ side remained 6th in League One following the draw, though they are now only one point ahead of Oxford United in 7th place.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Peterborough are certainly over their slump and now look in fine form as we enter the business end of the season.

“Recent results around Ferguson’s side in the table mean that they are now back in the conversation for automatic promotion, and they will feel confident of beating their opponents on Wednesday.

“It is a crucial game for Stevenage who could drop out of the top six if results go against them, although without a goal or a win in their last two it may be a big ask for them to return from their travels with a result.

“Given the Posh’s recent form, and factoring in their home advantage, I can see them comfortably beating the Boro on this occasion.”

“I think we’re in for a really competitive game here. It should be a tasty one too with Steve Evans returning to his former club and both sides right in the fight for promotion.

“That said, it’s hard not to back Posh when they’re on a winning run. They are a side prone to a tough run and a slip up or two but when they’re at their best and in form, they can be unstoppable.

Stevenage will do all they can to frustrate the hosts and keep them quiet but ultimately, I think Posh will break through and the visitors won’t be able to fight back. I’ll go for a 2-1 home win.”
