‘Really dangerous’ – Grimsby Town vs MK Dons prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Grimsby Town vs MK Dons prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Tuesday night.

Grimsby Town come into their midweek clash with MK Dons looking to pick up a surprise three points after being pegged back late on Saturday. The Mariners had held a 1-0 lead since the end of the first half before Sutton United’s Charlie Lakin levelled the scores from the spot.

The 1-1 draw makes it four games without defeat for Dave Artell and co, but three of those have been draws. They’re five points clear of the League Two relegation zone with 11 games left.

MK Dons meanwhile made it back-to-back wins with a 3-1 triumph over Salford City. All goals were scored in the first half with the win leaving them 4th in the table, two points off the top three.

Mike Williamson’s side have played at least once more than the three teams above them so need to avoid dropping points as much as possible to keep up with the fight for automatics.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“I can see MK Dons taking all three points from this one in fairly comfortable fashion. The Mariners aren’t the most prolific in front of goal and a side like Williamson’s should be able to capitalise on that.

“Grimsby have tightened things up defensively since that hammering against Doncaster Rovers, which is a positive of course. MK can be a really dangerous outfit on their day though, so I think they’ll find more joy than some of their recent opponents.

“I’ll go for a 2-0 away win.”

This will be a tricky tricky test for Grimsby Town at home to a side chasing down promotion to League One.

The Mariners are only five points above the drop zone and with Forest Green Rovers showing a bit of fight below them, they need to start picking up some wins to avoid getting dragged into serious trouble.

MK Dons remain in with a shout of getting into the top three and will see this as a winnable game at Blundell Park.

The Dons have won their last two games on the spin against Mansfield Town and Salford City and I can see them getting another three points here.”
