‘Potential banana skin’ – Tranmere Rovers vs Mansfield Town prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Tranmere Rovers vs Mansfield Town prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Tuesday night.

Tranmere Rovers come into this midweek clash with Mansfield Town off the back of a 1-1 draw with Gillingham. Nigel Adkins side led most of the tie after Regan Hendry’s early opener, only for Conor Masterson to equalise with 84 minutes on the clock.

They sit 17th in League Two as a result, 14 points clear of the bottom two and 11 off 7th.

Mansfield Town meanwhile maintained their three-point lead at the top of the League Two table, though they weren’t able to make any ground on their nearest rivals with Stockport County, Wrexham and MK Dons all winning too.

The Stags defeated Swindon Town 3-2, with Will Swan’s goal proving decisive in an entertaining second half.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is definitely a potential banana skin for Mansfield Town. Tranmere Rovers can be a tough side to visit and while they remain top of the table, Clough and co have shown they are prone to dropping points.

“Nevertheless, the visitors will be favourites to get over the line. They have the advantage in terms of sheer quality across the pitch and with promotion rivals in hot pursuit, they’ll be determined to claim maximum points.

“I’m not sure they will though. I’m saying this ends level at 1-1.”

Tranmere Rovers will fancy their chances of giving table toppers Mansfield Town a good game at Prenton Park.

Nigel Adkins’ side are unbeaten in their last two outings and battered 2nd place Stockport County 4-0 at home earlier this month which shows they are capable of competing with the big boys of League Two.

However, I think the Stags may just sneak an important win here to boost their promotion push. Their 3-2 win over Swindon Town should give them a lot of confidence and although it will be a close one, I can see them getting the job done.”
