‘On fire’ – West Brom ace hailed by teammate after Huddersfield Town win

West Brom centre-back Kyle Bartley has said Mikey Johnston is ‘on fire’ after their win at Huddersfield Town.

West Brom won 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium to boost their Championship promotion push.

Johnston, 24, scored twice for the Baggies whilst Okay Yokuşlu and Bartley got their other goals against the Terriers.

Speaking after the game, the latter told the official club website: “Mikey is on fire. I said to him after the game that his twin brother must have been playing because, like all of us, he wasn’t quite at it in that first 45. He’s just got to try and keep that going.”

West Brom ace hailed

West Brom’s decision to sign Johnston on loan from Celtic in the January transfer window has turned out to be a masterstroke.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has eight caps under his belt so far, has scored six goals in nine games for the Baggies since his winter switch.

He has been on the books at Celtic Park for his whole career to date and rose up through the academy ranks of the Hoops.

The attacker has played 92 matches for the Hoops in all competitions, finding the net on 13 occasions, but was given the green light to head out the exit door when Carlos Corberan’s side came calling to get some more game time.

Johnston has previously had a temporary stint away from Glasgow in the past at Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal.

West Brom remain 5th in the table right now and are full of confidence ahead of the last nine fixtures.

They are five points inside the play-offs with the likes of Norwich City, Hull City and Coventry City chasing them down.

Next up for Corberan’s men is a home clash against Bristol City this weekend, followed by an away trip to Millwall to end March.
