Leicester City’s current position on potential summer deal for 23-year-old emerges

Leicester City loan man Yunus Akgun will not be signed on a permanent deal this summer, according to a report from Turkish publication Aksam.

Leicester City look on course to seal promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but don’t have too much breathing space with the chasing pack close behind them.

They do sit 1st in the table as things stand, but are just three points ahead of Leeds United and four points ahead of Ipswich Town with nine games left to play between now and the end of the season.

Plenty of decisions will be made in the summer transfer window in terms of possible incomings and those who could be sold or shipped out on loans. But there also the current loanees at the club to contend with too.

One such player is Akgun. The winger arrived from Galatasaray at the start of the campaign with his contract containing a clause which, if activated, would see him join the Foxes for €9 million.

However, a report from Aksam in Akgun’s native Turkey claims that the Championship side will not pursue a permanent deal given their current potential issues with Financial Fair Play.

Not one to pursue for Leicester City

Regardless of whether they could have afforded to pay the asking price in Akgun’s loan contract, Leicester City should turn their attention to other targets.

The Turkish international has only scored two goals and registered a further two assists in 23 appearances, starting just nine of those. Although he has played a part in their relative successes so far, he hasn’t been as important as several others in his position.

With Financial Fair Play potentially a hurdle for Enzo Maresca’s side to overcome shortly, their spending may be limited and reduced significantly. They will be looking to not have to spend where they can and this will likely be at the expense of Akgun, and for good reason.
