The72’s writers offer their Derby County vs Reading prediction ahead of their League One clash on Tuesday evening.

Derby County head into this midweek fixture off the back of a convincing 3-0 victory away from home against Bristol Rovers.

The Rams went in goalless at the break against Matt Taylor’s side, but a dominant performance was rewarded in the second half as Dwight Gayle, Tom Barkhuizen and Martyn Waghorn hit the back of the net to wrap up an important three points for Paul Warne’s men. They returned to 2nd in the table as a result, one point ahead of 3rd place Bolton Wanderers.

Reading, on the other hand, head to Pride Park following a disappointing 2-1 defeat on home soil against Wycombe Wanderers.

The visitors took a one-goal lead into the second half following Nigel Lonwijk’s 16th minute effort, the Royals then equalised through Sam Smith in the 74th minute, but a late Beryly Lubala penalty ensured Wycombe secured their win. Reading sit 18th in League One as a result, five points above the drop zone.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“After back-to-back 3-0 victories, Derby will feel extremely confident of picking up a result on home soil against the Royals.

“Warne’s side have now returned to the automatic promotion spots after taking advantage of the results around them in the table, and another three points on Tuesday could prove crucial for them.

Reading will take inspiration from their triumph over the Rams in the reverse fixture, although away from home it is bound to be a trickier contest.

“The Rams look to be hitting their stride at the right time. I expect both sides to score, but a narrow home win seems a fair guess on this occasion.”

Derby County have boosted their promotion push with back-to-back 3-0 wins over Port Vale and Bristol Rovers.

The Rams will be full of confidence ahead of their upcoming clash as they look to keep their momentum going.

Reading have been pretty inconsistent recently and their form has been stuttering. However, they are still five points above the drop zone which is all that matters for them right now.

I think Paul Warne’s side will be too strong for the Royals in this one, although I can see the visitors getting on the scoresheet at Pride Park.”
