‘A matter of time’ – Carlisle United vs Barnsley prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Carlisle United vs Barnsley prediction ahead of the League One clash on Tuesday.

Carlisle United lost 3-2 away at Charlton Athletic in their last League One outing. Luke Armstrong and Taylor Charters scored for them at The Valley.

The Cumbrians are bottom of the table with only 23 points on the board. They are 16 points from safety with 10 games left of the season to play.

As for Barnsley, they are eyeing promotion to the Championship. However, they were thumped 5-1 at home by Lincoln City last time out.

The Tykes have slipped down to 5th position. They are five points off the top two with a game in hand on the teams above them.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

It is only a matter of time before Carlisle United are relegated. They just haven’t been able to adapt to life in League One following their promotion last year.

Nevertheless, the future is still bright for the Cumbrians following the club’s takeover by the Piatak family and I back them to do well in League Two next term, assuming they don’t miraculously survive this season.

“This is a really big game for Barnsley. If they drop points, I think their chances of making the top two will fade away. However, I can see them getting the job done at Brunton Park here.”

“Nothing less than a win here will do for Barnsley. In such a competitive fight for 2nd place, they have to be beating bottom side Carlisle United.

“Of course, nothing is a given in this league and we have seen that the Tykes can be prone to an unexpected dropping of points. But for the most part, they’ve been fantastic of late and should definitely have what it takes to overcome the Cumbrians here.

“I’m going for a fairly routine 2-0 away win.”

Carlisle United vs Barnsley prediction: 0-2
