Norwich City join Leicester City in Porto scouting mission

Norwich City scouts have joined counterparts from fellow Championship side Leicester City in a scouting mission in Portugal, according to O Jogo (via Sport Witness).

Norwich City overcame their difficult and controversial defeat at Middlesbrough in midweek with a convincing 5-0 win over bottom-placed side Rotherham United yesterday afternoon.

The result saw them leapfrog Hull City into 6th place in the table. The Canaries will now be hoping to remain in the Championship top six and get into the play-offs.

Although they don’t know for certain what division they will be playing their football in next season, those behind the scenes will already be drawing up a list of targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.

They have already got their scouting missions underway according to O Jogo (via Sport Witness), and have joined Leicester City scouts at Porto’s game against Portimonense, along with Bayern Munich and Sevilla.

No players are named in the report, although it is clear they will be targeting players in the Portuguese league ahead of what promises to be a busy window for David Wagner’s side.

A great transfer strategy for Norwich City

The Portuguese league provides clubs with the opportunity of signing exciting, young, promising players without having to break the bank to sign them. There has been huge success in this market in recent years and Norwich City will be hoping to follow suit.

All will depend on whether they remain in the second tier or get promoted of course and this will influence their transfer strategy, targets and spending power. Yet they could be drawing up targets for both possible outcomes.

Should they be targeting players who the likes of Leicester City, Sevilla or Bayern Munich are also targeting, they may have their work cut out for them, especially if Norwich City remain in the second tier next season. But this remains to be seen.
