Star man could return – Middlesbrough team news and predicted XI to face QPR

Middlesbrough travel to QPR this afternoon where they will be hoping to make it back to back wins for the first time since the Christmas period.

Middlesbrough find themselves 12th in the table with a game in hand on the sides above them. But bridging the gap between themselves and the Championship top six looks increasingly more difficult week by week.

Their inconsistency and injury list looks to have ultimately cost them greatly. But they head to QPR on a high after the 3-1 win over promotion-hopefuls Norwich City last time out.

There are no boosts in terms of returning players from injury layoffs for the away side. What some may consider four of Middlesbrough’s strongest defenders Darragh Lenihan, Dael Fry, Tommy Smith and Alex Bangura all remain out and won’t feature here.

In midfield, Hayden Hackney will also likely miss the trip to Loftus Road. Jonny Howson returned to the fold last time out and will likely continue alongside Lewis O’Brien in the centre of the park.

In attack, both Josh Coburn won’t be fit enough to start but could be included on the bench after a lengthy lay-off. However one player who could return is winger Isaiah Jones. He too has been out of action for a number of weeks and may feature from the bench against QPR is passed fit.

We expect Middlesbrough to be unchanged from the win over the Canaries at the weekend. Head Coach Michael Carrick hasn’t been able to play his free flow passing style in his preffered 4231 formation with the players at his disposal and should opt for a 541 again.

QPR are in great form and this won’t be an easy game. With the London side fighting for their lives, Boro will need to be wary and may need to defend well with their 5 at the back and counter with the pace of Emmanuel Latte Lath up top.
