Bristol Rovers are going in search of their third successive victory, but Derby County’s aim will be to stop them in order to try and push back into the automatic promotion spots.

The Gas beat Leyton Orient 1-0 away from home in their last encounter despite going down to 10 men late in the game. Chris Martin continued his excellent form in front of goal to score the winner, with Rovers hanging onto their lead following James Wilson’s red card. They currently sit 11th in the table.

Derby County also won their last encounter, comfortably dispatching Port Vale 3-0 on home soil. An early Kacper Lopata own goal was followed by Dwight Gayle’s first for the club and Louie Sibley’s second-half strike to wrap up the three points. Paul Warne’s men are now 3rd in League One, a point behind Bolton Wanderers in 2nd.

Now, ahead of this afternoon’s clash, here are five players who could dictate Bristol Rovers vs Derby County

Chris Martin

Somebody that Derby County supporters will need no introduction to following his seven years spent with the club between 2013 and 2020, 35-year-old Martin has been key for the Gas this season.

With 15 goals to his name, one of which came against the Rams in the reverse fixture, he will be hopeful of striking again this afternoon.

Joe Ward

Despite being in and out of the squad throughout the season, Ward stepped up massively last time out and provided two assists for Warne’s side from right-wing-back.

If he is able to produce a similar performance at the Memorial Stadium then he is bound to cause Matt Taylor’s side a few problems.

Elkan Baggott

On loan from Ipswich Town, 21-year-old centre-back Baggott has been fantastic for Bristol Rovers since his arrival in January and without the suspended Wilson he will have a huge part to play against the Rams.

The Gas’ defence are bound to be busy, so his input shall be key if his side are to get a result against Derby.

Who is this?

Dwight Gayle

Having opened his account for his new side last time out, veteran striker Gayle will be hoping to continue his form into the next match.

He is Warne’s first-choice man up top in absence of the injured James Collins, and his quality has been clear to see since signing last month.

Jed Ward

Finally, the hosts’ shot-stopper Ward will be another key player for the Gas if they are to grab a result against the Rams.

Following his clean sheet against Leyton Orient, the 20-year-old will be determined to get another against Derby and build on his solid performance last time out.
