Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United: 5 players who could dictate tonight’s game

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United in the Championship tonight. Here, we look at five players who could dictate the tie…

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United sees two in-form sides battle it out for a valuable three points. The Owls need the win to boost their survival hopes, while the Whites could lose ground on the top two if they fail to win.

Danny Rohl’s side have won five of their last six Championship games and while they sit 23rd, a win would lift them up to 16th. The visitors meanwhile can move back up to 2nd in the Championship table before Ipswich Town’s tie with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Ahead of the game, we pick out five players who could dictate Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds United

Archie Gray

While Daniel Farke’s side won against Stoke City in the week, they looked to miss Archie Gray. Bringing him back into the starting XI tonight seems wise, and potentially in his favoured midfield role rather than at right-back.

The 17-year-old possesses talent way beyond his years and if Leeds United are to be successful tonight, expect Gray to have caught the eye.

Ike Ugbo

Ugbo has been a huge hit since swapping Cardiff City for Sheffield Wednesday in January. Six goals in 10 games has seen him emerge as the talisman Rohl was in dire need of.

A lot of the Owls’ chances fall to him but he’s also key in bringing others into the attack. It means the likes of Djeidi Gassama will also prove ones to watch.

Crysencio Summerville

You can’t highlight Leeds United’s main threats without picking out Summerville. Be it on the left or right, the flying Dutchman is a constant danger out wide and could prove to be a real headache for the hosts.

Don’t be surprised if he adds to his 23 league goal contributions here.

Who is this?

Marvin Johnson

While the visitors will have their threats out wide, Wednesday possess their own. Marvin Johnson’s return to the fold has proven timely and if he can link up well with Gassama, Leeds United’s starting right-back could be in for a tough night.

Johnson possesses a fantastic left foot, so Farke’s side can’t afford to give him too much time on the ball.

Georginio Rutter

Last but not least is Leeds United star Rutter, who will more than likely start in behind the no.9. His tendency to drop deep and pick up the ball will be food for thought for the Sheffield Wednesday midfield, who will have to do what they can to prevent him from picking up speed on the ball.

Rutter has looked a level above at times but can be caught out trying too much at times. If he’s on his game though, he’ll be a really tricky customer to deal with.
