The72’s writers offer their Bristol City vs Swansea City prediction ahead of their Championship clash on Sunday afternoon.

Bristol City head into this weekend’s encounter with Swansea City following a gutting 3-2 loss away from home against Ipswich Town, falling to a fourth straight defeat in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

Liam Manning’s side led twice on the night and even escaped a late penalty scare after Max O’Leary saved Ali Al Hamadi’s effort from 12 yards, but the Tractor Boys kept persisting and eventually found their winner through Leif Davis in the 89th minute. The Robins are now 14th in the table, but their recent form may well have them looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone with just six points separating them from the drop.

Swansea City, on the other hand, drew their last fixture 1-1 against Watford at Vicarage Road and sit one place below Manning’s men in the Championship as a result.

The Swans went in at the break with a one-goal advantage thanks to Ryan Andrews’ own goal, but Ryan Porteous levelled things for the Hornets from close range in the second half to ensure things ended all square.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“This is a tough one to call given the Robins’ poor form as of late, they have been competitive in their defeats but things have not been clicking for Manning’s side recently.

“Swansea have now seemingly picked up under Luke Williams having won two of their last three, and will look to pile further misery on their hosts this weekend.

“It is certainly an encounter where I can see both sides scoring, but it is seriously anyone’s guess as to how this encounter will play out.

“Based on recent form alone, I am edging towards a narrow victory for the away side.”

Swansea City are starting to find some form under Luke Williams. By all accounts, he’s a fantastic coach and one who can go on to manage at the top, but it’s not the easiest environment to work in with the South Welsh club.

“Nonetheless, he’s getting a tune out of his players at the moment and with Bristol City really struggling for form, I’m backing the Swans to win again.

“It’s frustrating watching Bristol City. We’ve seen on plenty of occasions what they’re capable of, but it only seems to be glimpses rather than in sustained runs of impressive form.

“There’s more to come from both of these sides next season but for now, I give the edge to Swansea.”
