‘Fairly sour mood’ – Notts County vs AFC Wimbledon prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Notts County vs AFC Wimbledon prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Saturday afternoon.

Notts County come into this weekend’s clash with AFC Wimbledon desperately searching for some form. The Magpies have won only once in their last nine League Two games and have been beaten in five of the last six.

The decline in form started prior to Luke Williams’ exit but Stuart Maynard has been unable to right the ship. As a result, they’re now 14th in the League Two table, seven points away from the play-offs.

AFC Wimbledon were unable to build on their derby day win over MK Dons, playing out a goalless draw with strugglers Grimsby Town. They’re only three points off the top seven though.

Johnnie Jackson’s side have won once in the last six games and will know they need to find more consistent form if they’re to break into the play-off spots.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“It’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out, as Notts County’s backline has been leaky all season but AFC Wimbledon have been struggling in front of goal since the exit of Ali Al-Hamadi.

“Both are still in with a shot of the play-offs, especially the Dons, and given the fairly sour mood at Meadow Lane at the moment, I do see a passage to victory for the away side. However, Notts do still have goals in them, and given the visitors’ struggles to score, this could end level.

“I’m going for a 1-1 draw.”

Notts County concede way too many goals and that has been their downfall this season. They don’t have many problems scoring them though.

Stuart Maynard has struggled to make an impact since taking over from Luke Williams and their 4-3 loss to Sutton United last time out was a damaging one.

AFC Wimbledon weren’t able to build on their dramatic win over MK Dons last weekend on Tuesday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Grimsby Town.

The Dons don’t score many and I think they might fall to a narrow defeat at Meadow Lane here.”
