Exeter City head into this weekend’s encounter with Bolton Wanderers off the back of a 2-1 defeat on their travels against Peterborough United. They are currently without a win in their last four.

Ephron Mason-Clark had put the Posh ahead early on, but Tom Carroll’s 36th minute effort sent the sides in all square at half-time. Kwame Poku then pounced to put the hosts in front once more and that proved to be the winner. The Grecians are now 16th in the table, six points clear of the drop zone.

Bolton Wanderers, on the other hand, drew their last game to return to League One’s automatic promotion spots after a late leveller saw their match with Barnsley end 2-2.

The Tykes had held a two-goal lead over Ian Evatt’s side courtesy of efforts from John McAtee and Donovan Pines in either half, but Victor Adeboyejo halved the deficit in the 68th minute ahead of Randell Williams’ dramatic stoppage time equaliser. Bolton are now 2nd again, one point ahead of 3rd place Derby County.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Exeter have been on a poor run as of late and Bolton will feel confident that they can take advantage and continue their surge for promotion.

“Evatt’s men have been excellent away from home this season and their late leveller against Barnsley will no doubt inspire their efforts against the Grecians.

“If the 7-0 scoreline that occurred the last time these two sides met is anything to go by then you would expect it to be a fairly routine afternoon for the away side.

“I am going for a comfortable victory for the visitors on this occasion.”

James Ray

“This should be a comfortable win for the visitors.

“St. James’ Park can be a tough place to go but Exeter City are in poor form at the moment and Bolton Wanderers need to win. They’re fighting it out at the top end of the table and can’t afford to be dropping points in games like this.

“Don’t rule out a slip up, but I’m going to go for a Bolton win. Exeter shouldn’t have much to trouble Evatt and co as they look to gain some momentum.”

Exeter City vs Bolton Wanderers prediction: 0-2
