Bristol Rovers head into this weekend’s encounter with Derby County following back-to-back victories, their most recent being a 1-0 win away from home against Leyton Orient

Veteran striker Chris Martin continued his excellent form in front of goal as he put Matt Taylor’s side ahead in the 30th minute. The Gas went down to 10 men following James Wilson’s red card late on, but stood firm to hold on for three points on their travels. They currently sit 11th in the table, with another season in the third-tier looking extremely likely next season.

Derby County also won their last fixture, triumphing 3-0 over relegation-threatened Port Vale at Pride Park Stadium ahead of their trip to Bristol.

Louie Sibley’s deflected shot went down as a Kacper Lopata own goal in the 5th minute before Dwight Gayle opened his Derby account just shy of half-time to double the Rams’ advantage. Sibley then struck home in the 58th minute to wrap up the scoring with Paul Warne’s side now sat 3rd in League One following the draw between Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“The Rams’ away form has been excellent this season, but there is now added pressure on Warne’s men to grind out results having dropped out of the automatic promotion spots.

Bristol Rovers will feel confident of causing an upset this weekend, however, having won their last two. Although having said that, their home form has not exactly been perfect this term.

“Derby obviously approach this tie as favourites, and with good reason, and if they are at their best then it would be hard to bet against them.

“I think it will be a close encounter, but I can see the away side taking a narrow victory on this occasion.”

Derby County are prone to tensing up at this stage of the season, as has been displayed by some displays. The were on form against Port Vale though and can definitely pick up another win here.

Bristol Rovers aren’t going to roll over and let them take control of the game though. The Gas are in decent form overall, though their record at home hasn’t been the strongest, offering a pathway to victory for the visitors.

“That said though, I do see the spoils being shared here. I’ll go for a 1-1 draw, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see ex-Derby County striker Chris Martin coming back to haunt them.”
