‘Under serious pressure’ – Preston North End vs Stoke City prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Preston North End vs Stoke City prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday.

Preston North End saw their trip to Southampton postponed after a fire broke out near St Mary’s. The match will be rescheduled to another date.

Ryan Lowe’s side are sat in 9th place in the table. They are only four points off the play-offs with a game in-hand on Hull City, Norwich City and Coventry City above them.

As for Stoke City, they are in a relegation battle. The Potters were beaten 1-0 away at Leeds United last time out.

Steven Schumacher’s side are inside the Championship relegation zone on goal difference behind Huddersfield Town. They have 10 games left to avoid dropping into League One.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Preston North End have been in decent form recently and it was a shame that their game against Southampton was postponed as it kind of breaks up their momentum a bit. Obviously everybody’s safety was more important though.

“Ryan Lowe’s side are unbeaten in their last seven games and have lost just once in their last nine outings too. They are a tough nut to crack at Deepdale.

Stoke are under serious pressure to get a result here as they battle it out at the bottom. I think they will fall short here though, but it will be a close one.”

“There’s a lot to play for here. Preston are still in with a real chance of earning a play-off finish and Stoke City are in dire need of results to keep themselves afloat in the relegation fight.

“The Potters’ struggles have been the culmination of poor decisions and mismanagement over recent seasons and I think they are in serious danger of a shock drop. And, I can see their fears deepening here.

Preston had the unsettling postponement of their game in the week but ultimately, it means the players should feel a little more rested than their opponents.

“I can see Lowe’s side putting in a sharp display as he gets one over his former no.2 Schumacher.”
